**Sophia Bush** is celebrating her *One Tree Hill* BFF - and real-life one too - **Hilarie Burton!**

In a post on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C85El9PypR%5F/?img%5Findex=1&ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) marking Hilarie's 42nd birthday, Sophia shared a bunch of photos of them over the years hugging at red carpet events. Sophia captioned it:

"Same squeeze all these years later. Same love, just multitudes greater. You are another year wiser, more magnificent, more excited, motivated sincere, hilarious, wicked, tender and present. Happy birthday sister."

She continued, "You make us all better, braver, safer, and honestly... cooler. There's no one who does it like you, you fox!"

Meanwhile, it wasn't quite a party day for Hilarie. She spent her birthday advocating for a cause close to her heart instead. The actor and host of *It Couldn't Happen Here* flew to Nashville to attend a hearing involving Greg Lance who was convicted of a double homicide. [According to Hilarie,](https://www.instagram.com/p/C80CZrDScMA/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) since their episode investigating his conviction aired, "multiple people have come forward to attest to Greg's innocence."

"All I want for my birthday is justice," she said in a later post, encouraging her fans to "party" with her by considering making a donation to the Tennessee Innocence Project:

Sophia and Hilarie have known each other since playing besties Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis on the teen series and have stayed friends ever since. *One Tree Hill,* which also starred Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty, hit our screens in 2003\. It continued for nine seasons following the story of two brothers competing for positions on their school's basketball team, and navigating some pretty dramatic love lives.

Earlier this year, Sophia and Hilarie had a mini *One Tree Hill* reunion when they attended the Paris Theatre in New York City together for the season premiere of their friend Busy Philipps' new show *Girls5Eva.* Hilarie took to her Insta stories soon after to share a video of their catchup, describing Sophia as "my lady".
