**Beyoncé** will be changing some of the lyrics on her new album [*Renaissance.*](https://music.beyonce.com/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)

The superstar, who dropped the joyful solo album last week, has been [criticised](https://twitter.com/scope/status/1554065695209660418?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1554065695209660418%7Ctwgr%5Ec009abb7197c18ccdf953ba35964e171963f2226%7Ctwcon%5Es1%5F&ref%5Furl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishnews.com%2Fmagazine%2Fentertainment%2F2022%2F08%2F01%2Fnews%2Fdisability%5Fcharity%5Furges%5Fbeyonce%5Fto%5Fremove%5Foffensive%5Fterm%5Ffrom%5Fnew%5Fsong-2787655%2F&ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) by disability advocates for using an ableist slur ("spaz") on her track 'Heated', co-written with rapper Drake.

In a statement to CelebrityKind, Beyoncé's team has confirmed changes will be made immediately:

"The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced."

The derogatory term, while used colloquially in some parts of the world, originates from the medical word "spastic."

Disability advocate Hannah Diviney explains it "doesn’t mean/refer to what you think it does. It is not some shortcut for an emotional outburst or loss of control but instead comes from the word ‘spastic’ which most of you will know by now characterises a constant and incredibly painful unending tightness in my muscles that defines my Cerebral Palsy."

Fellow superstar **Lizzo** was called out just a few weeks ago for using the same ableist lyric in her single 'Grrrls' and [addressed](https://celebritykind.ghost.io/content/files/2026/09/lizzo-releases-grrrls-with-lyric-change-after-acknowledging-ableist-slur-in-original-1.html) the issue immediately:

“As a fat Black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally). I’m proud to say there’s a mew version of GRRRLS with a lyric change. This is the result of me listening and taking action. As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world. Xoxo, Lizzo.”

No further details have been shared about the replacement words **Beyoncé** will use.
