Luxury fashion house **Burberry** \- who stopped the use of fur and angora back in 2018 - are now also banning the use of exotic skins in their fashion collections.

The news was confirmed during Burberry's FY22 earnings call this week (as per [*BOF*](https://www.businessoffashion.com/news/sustainability/burberry-bans-exotic-skins/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)). We're talking skins that come from snakes, alligators, crocodiles and ostriches that are used to make leather handbags, shoes, belts and more.

The move comes after countless campaigns by animal rights activists and groups including PETA, who are thrilled that Burberry is finally taking action:

"During Burberry's annual meeting last year, PETA UK asked when it would make good on its commitment to be 'a force for good in the world' by banning exotic skins, and we're delighted that after years of pressure from PETA entities around the world, that day is today!" PETA UK Vice President Mimi Bekhechi shares in a statement.

"A growing list of designers - including Calvin Klein, Chanel, Victoria Beckham, Jil Sander, Mulberry and Vivienne Westwood - is realising that there is nothing chic about an industry in which alligators are hacked open, pythons are inflated with air compressors and lizards are decapitated for garments and accessories."

There are still a number of brands including Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Gucci who continue to use exotic skins.
