**Dolly Parton** is turning down the opportunity to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The country music icon who is among several major artists being considered for the prestigious honour, released a [statement](https://www.instagram.com/p/CbFnWJhOieR/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) on social media explaining why she's politely declining:

"Even though I am extremely flattered to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right," she begins.

"I really do not want the votes split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out."

"I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again - if I'm ever worthy," Dolly continues.

"This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock 'n' roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock 'n' roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one."

She ends her message by wishing all the nominees luck. "Rock on!"

Other artists nominated this year include Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Eminem, Kate Bush, A Tribe Called Quest and Judas Priest.
