# 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 20 is Happening!

The doctors at Grey Sloane Memorial will return for another year!

ABC has announced hit series *Grey's Anatomy* has been renewed for its 20th season. It's also been revealed executive producer Meg Marinis, who has been with the show since Season 3 (originally as a writer's production assistant) will serve as showrunner taking the reins from the legendary Krista Vernoff who [confirmed](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn2pSl0PZ8p/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) in January she would be leaving.

Earlier this year, we learned [Ellen Pompeowould be departing](https://celebritykind.ghost.io/content/files/2026/09/ellen-pompeo-shares-sweet-goodbye-message-for-greys-anatomy-fans-5.html) as a series regular with her character Dr Meredith Grey heading to Boston in Season 19 (though she very comfortingly continues to narrate the series *and* she's expected back for the season 19 finale in May). Kelly McCreary who plays Dr Maggie Pierce also [announced](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp5iIZrvv91/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) her exit after nine seasons with the show.

It's not clear yet which actors will return for Season 20.
