Australian singer **Helen Reddy** who was behind the worldwide feminist anthem "I Am Woman" has passed away, aged 78.

Her children, Traci and Jordan, confirmed the news with a message on an official Facebook fan page:

"She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever."

**Helen** was the first Australian to top the U.S. charts and the first to win a Grammy Award.

And she gave us that phenomenal Grammy's moment while accepting the award in 1973:

"I'd like to thank God because she makes everything possible," she said.

She had been out of the spotlight over the last few years as she battled dementia.

A biopic about **Helen's** life titled "I Am Woman" premiered last year.
