**Jason Momoa** has an important message for our global leaders.

The *Aquaman* star and recently appointed [UNEP Advocate for Life Below Water](https://celebritykind.ghost.io/content/files/2026/09/jason-momoa-named-uneps-official-advocate-for-life-below-water-3.html) is using his platform to urge those in power to do more to protect marine biodiversity in areas that aren't regulated under national jurisdiction.

"THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW," Jason writes on his [Instagram page.](https://www.instagram.com/p/ChvexK1vPB-/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)

"I call on our global leaders to negotiate an ambitious, future-proof, international, legally binding instrument on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," he continues.

"We are polluting and overfishing our oceans. Climate is heating up, taking away its oxygen and turning our oceans more acidic. We are threatening the very existence of life below water. It cannot wait. Our people and planet are counting on YOU. Do the right thing and act now."

According to the UN, the [Convention on the Law of the Sea,](https://www.un.org/depts/los/convention%5Fagreements/texts/unclos/closindx.htm?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) "lays down a comprehensive regime of law and order in the world's oceans and seas establishing rules governing all uses of the oceans and their resources. It enshrines the notion that all problems of ocean space are closely interrelated and need to be addressed as a whole."

Jason was appointed a UNEP Advocate for Life Below Water in June this year.

“With this designation, I hope to continue my own journey to protect and conserve the ocean and all living things on our beautiful blue planet, for our generation and the generations to come," he said at the time.
