**Jonah Hill** has released an open letter announcing he won't be making any media appearances for awhile so he can work on his mental health.

In a letter to [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2022/08/jonah-hill-anxiety-attacks-stutz-no-promotion-of-films-you-people-kenya-barris-1235094767/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io), the actor and director explains that he's spent "nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public facing events."

His new documentary *Sputz,* which will be released later this year, features the Hollywood star in conversation with his therapist, openly discussing his mental health struggles.

"You won't see me out there promoting this film, or any of my upcoming films while I take this important step to protect myself," he writes. "If I made myself sicker by going out there and promoting it, I wouldn't be acting true to myself or to the film."

He adds that he knows he's in a place of privilege and "can afford to take time off."

Jonah shared that the aim of his documentary is to "make it normal for people to talk and act on this stuff. So they can take steps towards feeling better and so that the people in their lives mights understand their issues more clearly."
