Before blowing us away with that *epic* performance of Edith Piaf's "Mon Truc en Plum" at the Paris 2024 Olympics, **Lady Gaga** was busy doing what she does best - making the world a little kinder!

You see, Gaga's charity, the **Born This Way Foundation,** co-founded with her mum **Cynthia Germanotta**, teamed up with **Cotton On** not long ago to create a Kindness in Community Fund. And this week, the foundation announced the distribution of $3 million from the fund to 65 youth-centred organisations in 10 countries, Australia included. Each one received a grant of up to $150,000 to further their work supporting marginalised youth, mental health initiatives and anti-bullying programs.

*Pretty awesome, huh?* Especially given that mental health is such a crucial worldwide issue that doesn't receive much investment. In fact, according to a 2021 report from the [](https://www.who.int/news/item/08-10-2021-who-report-highlights-global-shortfall-in-investment-in-mental-health?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)mental health only receives around 2% of global health funding and just 0.5% of philanthropic health funding.

Announcing the grant, Cynthia said, "it was my daughter's and my vision to be able to act on the research and thousands of conversations we've had with young people globally, where youth have asked for responsive services and programs that meet their needs and support their mental health and whole wellbeing. Thanks to partners like Cotton On, Born This Way Foundation is able to scale the important work of the 2024 Kindness in Community Fund grant recipients as they support youth mental health and uplift their communities."

Some of the Aussie grantees include the [](http://raise.org.au/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)which provides a mentoring program to at risk youth, [](https://www.projectrockit.com.au/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)which works with schools to combat bullying and [](https://www.live4life.org.au/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)which is helping young people prioritise their mental health.

"Live4Life is very proud to be announced as one of just 65 recipients worldwide of the Kindness in Community Fund. We will be putting the Fund to immediate use in helping bring young mental health ambassadors together for our 3-day Crew Camp, where they will learn leadership, advocacy and media skills. Additionally, the Fund will support a positive mental health messaging social media campaign to be launched on World Mental Health Day," Live4Life CEO Bernard Galbally [said.](https://www.live4life.org.au/latest-news/kindnessincommunityfund?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)

Other recipients are from Brazil, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, the UK and USA.

"Something that inspired me about the nominated organisations was how many of them focused on supporting marginalised communities such as LGBTQ+ young people, youth living in rural and remote communities, and Indigenous youth," Born This Way Foundation's Advisory Board member **Nikoletta Apostolidis** said.

"It was also inspiring to see how the nominated organisations were youth led. Youth-led initiatives support young people to be active in decision making processes, programs and interventions that directly impact their lives. Youth-led organisations are not only helpful in understanding the needs, interests, and concerns of young people, but can also help to bolster the leadership skills, collaborative capacity, and confience of young people emerging as leaders in their communities."

Lady Gaga who has been open about being bullied in high school and has called out the media and online space a number of times over comments about her body, co-founded Born This Way in 2012 to help others feel included and supported through their struggles.

"Kindness is a free currency from a well that will never dry up," Gaga said at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis in 2016.

And she couldn't be more right!

In addition to its Kindness in Community Fund, the Born This Way Foundation has developed a mental health first aid course for teens, donated to research programs to support LGBTQ+ youth, implemented a number of kindness campaigns and carried out research exploring teen mental health and online behaviours.
