**Lady Gaga** has received the key to the city of West Hollywood on the 10th anniversary of her iconic album, "Born This Way."

West Hollywood Mayor, Lindsey P. Horvath, not only honoured the superstar for "encouraging us to love ourselves and be proud" through her music and activism, but also declared May 23 "Born This Way Day" and unveiled a pride flag painted on Robertson Boulevard featuring those very words:

In some[ footage shared online](https://twitter.com/PopCrave/status/1396595902190702592?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io) of the ceremony, Gaga can be heard thanking her fans, in true Gaga-style: "You're the motherf\*\*\*ing key to my heart!"

She adds, "I'll honour this, I'll cherish this and I promise that I'll always be here for this day... to celebrate with you to feel joy with you, to cry with you, to laugh with you."

Gaga also shared a statement on Twitter and honoured the man who inspired her in the first place:

"Born This Way, my song and album, were inspired by Carl Bean, a gay, black, religious activist who preached, sung and wrote about being "Born This Way." Notably his early work was in 1975, 11 years before I was born. Thank you for decades of relentless love, bravery, and a reason to sing. So we can all feel joy, because we deserve joy. Because we deserve the right to inspire tolerance, acceptance, and freedom for all."

"Born This Way" has been streamed over 5.8 billion times since its release and sold more than 5.2 million albums as well as over 31 million digital tracks.

Not bad Gaga!
