Migos rapper **Takeoff** has tragically passed away during a shooting in Texas.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner confirmed the sad news during a press conference:

"This morning at 2:34 a.m. officers received a call of a shooting in progress. Officers arrived there shortly thereafter - a downtown location, Billiards & Bowling Alley. They came upon a male who was deceased. That male has been identified as Kirshnik Ball, better known as Takeoff."

He adds: "I got many calls from Houston and outside of Houston. And everyone spoke of what a great young man this is, how peaceful he is. What a great artist.... I ask that we all pray for his mother, his family, and all of his friends who are in deep pain and shock still right now."

Sgt. Michael Arrington who is with the homicide division explained that no arrests have been made and no suspects have been named either but they are asking any witnesses to come forward with information.

As news of the 28-year-old's death spread, his fellow artists took to social media to share their words of love:

**Ciara** writes on Twitter: "My heart hurts to hear about Takeoff. It just doesn't make sense. Gone too soon."

**Juice Wayne** writes: "All this bloodshed. For nothing. It'll never make sense. Never ever."

**Kelly Rowland** posted to her Instagram stories: "Keeping his family in my prayers!!! There are NO WORDS..."

**Alicia Keys,** on Twitter, writes: "This is too much... It's like every day. RIP Takeoff. Sending light to your family and loved ones."

**Sza** describes him as "SUCH A TALENTED SOUL."

And author **Frederick Joseph** writes: "I want to see more Black men with grey hair. Growing older and wiser. I’m heartbroken at the continuous need for us to post 'Rest In Peace' because violence has taken another one of us. But here we are, sleep well, Takeoff."

The rapper was the youngest member of Migos who achieved six solo hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and 43 with the iconic hip hop group, including the No. 1 hit from 2017, "Bad and Boujee".
