# Shakira Shines a Light on Impact of COVID-19 on Latin America at Global Citizen Concert

**Shakira** has taken part in the **Global Citizen** "Unite for Our Future" concert, a special worldwide event highlighting the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on marginalised and vulnerable communities.

The Colombian superstar used her platform to draw attention to the situation in Latin America - "now the hardest hit region of this pandemic," **Shakira** says in a video live streamed from Barcelona on **YouTube, Facebook** and **Twitter.** 

"Experts say Africa will be next," she added.

"We must do everything we can to help them avoid catastrophic damage," **Shakira** said before performing her Spanish-language song, *Sale el Sol,* "about the moment you start to see the sun break through after hard times."

"As we walk the road to recovery, let's help the most vulnerable regions in the world walk towards their, because the sun should come out for everyone."

The concert, which was hosted by **Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson** and featured dozens of artists from around the globe including **Miley Cyrus, Usher** and **Coldplay,** mobilised over $6.9 billion in pledges for COVID-19 relief.

[According to **Global Citizen**](https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/global-goal-unite-for-our-future-impact-report/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io), financial commitments were made by world governments as well as corporate and philantrhopic partners such as the **FIFA Foundation, Johnson & Johnson** and **Google.** 

The money pledged will be distributed to organisations at the forefront of developing tests, treatments and vaccines including the **World Health Organisation's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.**
