**Sydney Sweeney** is heading to the ring for her next project where she'll portray trailblazing boxer **Christy Martin!**

The *Anyone But You* and *Immaculate* star confirmed the news on Instagram, revealing she's "honoured to tell Christy's powerful story." She also shared her thoughts with [*Deadline* ](https://deadline.com/2024/05/sydney-sweeney-boxer-christy-martin-movie-biopic-david-michod-1235903974/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io)who first reported the news:

"I grappled and did kickboxing from 12 to 19 years old. I've been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy's story isn't a light one, it's physically and emotionally demanding. There's a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself."

Christy became a welterweight champion and America's most well-known female boxer of the 90s. She broke numerous boundaries including becoming the first woman to sign with promoter Don King.

Sydney tells *Deadline,* the film will be about Christy's rise to the top as well as her struggles out of the spotlight: "Christy Martin not only legitimised female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse."

The film will be directed by David Michôd who was behind *Animal Kingdom* and *The Rover.* According to *Deadline,* Christy has been collaborating with the team on this project.
