Grammy-winning rapper **Macklemore** recently opened for fellow Grammy-winning artist **Ed Sheeran** at his MetLife Stadium concerts in New Jersey - and he's been making headlines ever since.

They're mostly about how he shared pro-Palestinian messages on stage wearing a keffiyeh, performed his song "Hind's Hall" in honour of a young Palestinian girl who was shot hundreds of times by Israeli forces, how he's now being accused of "anti-semitism" and how a petition launched by a pro-Israeli organisation is calling for him to be removed from the remainder of Ed's tour.

As always, the media is picking up a snippet of his words and creating the most divisive, rage-baity headlines possible. And as always, there's more to the story.

We scoured the internet for footage from the Friday and Saturday night shows, and used clips shared on [Macklemore's socials](https://www.instagram.com/p/Dc%5FbH4%5FN1FN/?ref=celebritykind.ghost.io). It seems he delivered a similar message on both nights.

So what exactly did he say?

Well, my take is that he wants *all* people walking this earth to have peace and safety:

*"I was trying to think about how I would go into this next song. And I started to feel scared. Like I didn’t know exactly what to say. There’s a part of me that’s like bro, just play the song that they know, get off stage as fast as possible because Ed Sheeran has his guitar and like, three hours of music. But the truth is, a big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place was so I could stand up at stadiums like this and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart - Free Palestine.*

*I said, Free Palestine! I want those words to be loud and clear so that people from Gaza, all the way to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten about them."*

*I have an 11-year-old daughter. Her name is Sloan. She is here tonight. And if any of you guys are parents then you know that that love that you have for your kids cannot be put into words, right? And I want to see her grow up. I want to see her go to school, to fall in love, to figure out meaning, purpose, joy, her existence on this planet. I want it to be the most beautiful possible. And I think that every single human being that walks this earth deserves that exact same feeling.*

*To know safety and peace before they know the sound of violence. To know the sound of laughter on a playground before planes and bombs. For parents to be able to say bye to their children in the morning and not have to wonder if this is going to be the last time that they kiss their children goodbye.*

*And if I let that fear that I felt on the plane yesterday stop me from speaking my heart in order to keep my own comfort and the audiences comfort, that is the day that I no longer need to be on stage.*

*And this next song was inspired by the bravery of Columbia University students who led an encampment movement that mobilised the entire world. Opened up hearts, myself included. So thank you to those students that risked their diplomas, that risked their tuition, that risked their scholarships, that stood up and said, No. CUAD students, Students For Justice In Palestine, and Jewish Voices For Peace. Thank you guys.*

*And I want to say this before I get into the song. I want to say this.*

*To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: Criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you.*

*My message is for peace. Love. For all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.*

*So I say free Palestine. I say free Lebanon. I say free Cuba. I say free Congo, free Sudan, free all people in America living in fear over this terrorist organisation ICE. No one will be free until we are all free."*

At the time of writing, Ed Sheeran hasn't commented.
