Musicians 5 Seconds of  Summer and Jessica Mauboy, along with actress and adoption advocate Deborra-Lee Furness are among dozens of Aussie artists and businesses who are calling on the Australia Government to lift its game ahead of COP26.

What is that exactly? It's the major climate summit taking place in Glasgow next week. And at this moment in time, Australians haven't seen any details about our climate policy or how the government plans on meeting emissions targets. Zilch. Nothing.

So Deb, Jess and the 5SOS guys have signed an open letter through advocacy platform Global Citizen, urging our leaders to show up with three clear outlines:

  • for an emissions reduction target for Australia by 2030 that's in-line with preventing more than 1.5 degrees celsius of global warming, and a plan for how it's going to be achieved;
  • a commitment to reaching net zero by 2050 and again, how that's going to be achieved;
  • and finally an increased commitment to supporting nations most at risk of the climate crisis, particularly in the Pacific region.

"Nobody is exempt from the responsibility of taking action against climate change and protecting our planet for future generations," the letter states.

"Prime Minister Morrison, please show up with an ambitious and clear plan on behalf of the majority of Australians who want to see our country take action on climate change. We cannot miss this critical moment in time, the future of our planet depends on it."

Other people who've signed the letter include singer Jack River, CEO of Oxfam Australia Lyn Morgain and Chief Executive of UNICEF Australia Tony Stuart.

We can all read more and sign the letter too, right HERE.
