Singer, songwriter, record producer and the guy we like to think of as our social media big brother, Andy Grammer, is reminding us it's okay to be different and not liked by everyone.

In between posting his "Feel Good Playlists" and adorable videos of his kids, the superstar has shared a video on Instagram offering some helpful advice about letting go of that overwhelming desire to please others - because let's face it, we've all been there, haven't we?

Channeling those big brother vibes, he begins with a little analogy:

"I don't like the taste of olives. I never have. I can't tell you a logical reason why, I just don't like them," Andy says with a smile.

"About every three years, I give them another try because so many people like them, I need to check in again and every time I check again, I hate them again. They're just not my thing. I'll go as far as saying I have trouble understanding why anyone likes olives," he continues.

"Now to some people, my music sounds as bad as olives taste to me. I've been on social media, I can attest to this truth and this is totally okay. It was a hard lesson for me to learn, I mean, I like to be liked. But when I really owned this idea of not being everyone's cup of tea, there was a huge weight that was lifted off of me."

Did you get that bit? Sometimes, we're just not everyone's cup of tea! Sometimes, we're the olive!

"When I stopped trying to please everyone, I started to really over deliver for my specific crowd. The ones that really get what I'm about. If you are someone who makes olives, you were never going to convince me in the first place."

Andy explains that "true confidence lies in the statement, 'I am not for everyone.'"

"That's where the power is," he says.

"This is where we start to get real comfortable in our uniqueness."

And he couldn't be more right.

So next time someone is leaving negative vibes in your space, think of the olives that Andy hates so much and remember, olives are not for everyone - but there are millions out there who still love them.
