Britney Spears has addressed a Los Angeles court, telling the judge the conservatorship which has controlled her career, finances and life for the last 13 years is doing her "WAY more harm" than good.

Speaking via phone link, the superstar described the situation as "abusive" and said her father, Jamie Spears, who is the co-conservator of her estate, "should be in jail."

According to a transcript shared by Variety.com, she gave examples of the extent of the control she is under, including not being able to marry her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, or have any more children:

"I was told right now in the conservatorship, I'm not allowed to get married or have a baby. I have an [IUD] inside myself right now so I don't get pregnant," Britney said.

She also described being forcefully medicated at one point, saying all she did was disagree with one part of the choreography for a show:

"I'm not here to be anyone's slave. I can say no to a dance move."

Britney, who has posted a number of videos on her Instagram over the past few months letting her fans know she's happy and she's doing well, admitted that in fact, she isn't happy at all:

"I've lied and told the whole world I'm OK and happy. I've been in denial. I've been in shock. I'm traumatised. I can't sleep. I'm depressed. I cry every day. But now I'm telling you the truth, I'm not happy. I can't sleep. I'm so angry it's insane...and I cry every day. "

During the case, an attorney representing the other side asked for the hearing and transcript to be kept sealed if private medical info was to be revealed but Britney wouldn't have a bar of it:

"They've interfered with my life so I feel like it should be an open court hearing and they should listen and hear what I have to say."

She ended her 20-minute address by saying "this conservatorship is doing me WAY more harm than good. I deserve to have a life. I deserve to have a two, three year break and do what I want to do. I wish I could stay with you on the phone forever because when I get off the phone, I hear all these 'no's'"

She asked for the conservatorship to end "immediately" without the need for a mental evaluation.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny thanked and praised Britney for speaking out saying, "I know it took a lot of courage."

So will Britney finally be free?

A formal petition now needs to be submitted to the court asking for the conservatorship to be terminated.
