It's National Sons Day in the U.S. It also happens to be one year since Chrissy Teigen and John Legend experienced the heartbreak of pregnancy loss.

And today, Chrissy is honouring both her boys - 4-year-old Miles and late son, Jack - with words of deep love and gratitude.

In a message posted to Instagram she refers to Jack as "the son we almost had" and explains how a year ago, he taught her that she could "survive anything."

"Even if I didn't want to. I didn't get to take care of you but you came and went to get me to love myself and take care of myself because our bodies are precious and life is a miracle."

Her words are accompanied by a heart-wrenching photo of her lying in a hospital bed, in tears, with John beside her.

"They told me it would get easier but yeah, that hasn't started yet. Mom and dad love you forever."

In an earlier post, she joked about whether Miles would be mad when he's older if he sees that she posted about Luna on National Daughters Day and not about him on National Sons Day.

"Are these going to be the grievances our kids have? Anyhow, I love you so much, son!!" she captioned a series of adorable photos of Miles.

Chrissy is among 1 in 4 women who experience pregnancy loss.
