O.M.G. The cast of 'People We Meet on Vacation' just keeps getting better and better!
On September 20, Netflix announced The Good Place's Jameela Jamil and Emily in Paris' Lucien Laviscount would be joining the film adaptation of Emily Henry's best-selling novel. It's not yet clear who they'll be playing in the film, but honestly, with the cast so far? - we're hooked already.
Emily Bader and Tom Blyth were previously announced as leads Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen. That news was shared in August this year through a clip of a Zoom call from director Brett Haley who told Emily she’d landed the role:
“Oh, I’m gonna crying! Are you serious? Are you kidding? What the hell, this is crazy!” Emily said through tears of happiness before Tom joined the call, smiling along.
Author Emily Henry then surprised the two of them by joining the call to share her excitement too:
“I have been, like, kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters. I just truly could not feel any more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely, completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex, with you guys playing them.”

What is People We Meet on Vacation about?
Well, let's start with the book: Released in 2021, it follows the story of besties Poppy and Alex who met in a car share home from college 11 years ago. They live far apart but every summer, they go on holidays together for one week – and it’s the best time of their lives! Written with dual timelines, we learn their friendship was fractured over a mysterious incident at one point and they haven’t spoken since. But Poppy plans a trip to Palm Springs in an attempt to repair their bond. And Alex agrees to be there…
As for the film adaptation, Netflix has shared this official logline: "Free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else - could they actually be the perfect romantic match?"
Who else is in the cast?
In addition to Emily Bader, Tom Blythe, Jameela Jamil and Lucien Laviscount, former and upcoming The White Lotus stars Lukas Gage and Sarah Catherine Hook are also part of the cast.
When will the film be released?
There’s no release date set just yet and filming hasn’t started so stay tuned!
