Jane Fonda is stepping up her fight for the planet.

The Hollywood icon and Fire Drill Fridays activist has launched a climate action committee that aims to "defeat" politicians who support the fossil fuel industry.

In a video posted to social media, she says the group, known as the Jane Fonda Climate PAC, will "do what it takes" including organising grassroots efforts and investing in paid media campaigns to ensure environmental champions are represented at all levels of government.

"The science is clear. We have to cut our fossil fuel emissions in half by 2030. We have eight years. That is just four election cycles to save the planet," Fonda says in the 9-minute clip.

"Greta Thunberg warned that our house is on fire. So it's time we fight fire with fire or, in this case, to fight dollars with dollars" she continues, explaining that the ultimate goal is to save the planet by replacing political allies of the fossil fuel industry, "no matter which side of the aisle they're on."

Fonda, who was famously arrested multiple times in 2019 while leading weekly protests alongside climate activists in Washington D.C., ends her video with a message for the politicians who don't support urgent climate action:

"You should be as scared for your careers as we are by the climate spinning out of our control. We will not back down."
