Jennifer Garner is mourning the loss of her dad, William John Garner, who has passed away at the age of 85.
The Family Switch star shared a moving post on Instagram, announcing the sad news:
"We were with him, singing Amazing Grace as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away - valid question.) While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85 year old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners," she wrote.
"Today is for gratitude."
Jennifer, who is one of three sisters, shared a series of childhood photos with her dad and went on to describe him as someone who had a "gentle demeanour and quiet strength" and was an "ever patient girl dad."
"There is so much to say about my dad - my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was so hear with us - but for today, I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind."
While Jennifer didn't share any details surrounding her dad's passing, she did thank the medical staff whose "care extended Dad's life and gave him time to be in his favourite spots - surrounded by daughters and grand children, cheering fo his beloved Aggies, captaining a boat, and most of all, next to hid wife of 59 years, our Mom."

Jennifer attended several red carpet events with her dad over the years and he smiled proudly beside her when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August, 2018.
