Jessica Simpson has opened up for the first time about being dyslexic.

The music star and fashion designer shared her story in an Insta post where she was discussing the success of her memoir, Open Book - a #1 New York Times bestseller and named by Apple Books as one of the best audiobooks of 2020.

"Turning my fears into wisdom has been a soulful journey to say the least. I appreciate the power of this praise with all my heart," she begins, thanking Apple Books for the recognition before discussing her learning difficulty.

"Fact: I'm dyslexic and this was the first time I have ever read out loud without hesitation," she continues.

"I did it for the listener. I did it for my family. I did it for myself."

She didn't reveal any details about when she was diagnosed or how she discovered she was dyslexic.

According to the Australian Dyslexia Organisation, individuals with dyslexia have trouble with reading and spelling despite having the ability to learn. No two cases are alike and while there is no cure, tailoring learning to a person's needs can help them overcome any literacy difficulties.

Other celebrities who have been open about their dyslexia include actress Jennifer Aniston who was diagnosed in her twenties, director and screen writer Steven Spielberg and Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson.
