Legendary actor Paul Sorvino has passed away, aged 83.

The sad news was confirmed by his daughter and Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino on Twitter:

“My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed. My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend.”

Paul's wife Dee Dee Sorvino also shared a message on Twitter:

"I am completely devastated The love of my life & the most wonderful man who has ever lived is gone . I am heartbroken."

Paul's career spanned more than five decades and his remarkable talent brought to life some of the most iconic characters including gangster Paulie Cicero in “Goodfellas”, Sergeant Phil Cerretta in “Law & Order” and Fulgencio Capulet in “Romeo + Juliet”.

He is survived by Dee Dee, as well as his children Mira, Amanda and Michael and several grandchildren.
