"Old Town Road" superstar Lil Nas X has shared a letter to his younger self about coming out publicly and it's a beautiful reminder that we should all be able to live just as we are, without the judgment of others.

The 21-year-old who posted the note on Instagram, addressed it to "14-year-old Montero" which is his real name.

"I wrote a song with our name in it. It's about a guy I met last summer," he begins.

"I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be 'that' type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist," he continues.

He explains that coming out is a "scary" thing to do and he knows people will accuse him of "pushing an agenda."

"But the truth is, I am," he adds.

"The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people's lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future."

His latest song, "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name), opens with a voiceover as we're introduced to an alternate Garden of Eden: "In life, we hide the parts of ourselves we don't want the world to see. We lock them away. We tell them 'no'. We banish them. But here, we don't. Welcome to Montero."
