Spice Girl Mel B has taken part in a graphic video highlighting the horrors of living with a violent partner.

The 4-minute clip, which was created by classical composer Fabio D'Andrea and is a collaboration with UK charity Women's Aid, is called Love Should Not Hurt.

In the video, we see Mel B being strangled, beaten and left bloodied and bruised by her partner (played by actor Sam Mackay) behind closed doors and appearing happy and in love in public.

According to the charity, the script was inspired by the real-life stories of survivors who reached out to Mel B after she shared her own experiences of control and abuse.

It's confronting. It's sickening. And yes, it's extremely difficult to watch.

But it's also an important reminder that this is the life 1 in 3 women worldwide suffer at the hands of an intimate partner.

"This is the most important video I have ever made," the singer, who is also a Patron for Women's Aid, shares on Instagram.

"I will never stop fighting for this cause so please, please, keep sharing, please, please keep talking to the abusers. We know who you are even though you are still out there thinking you can get away with it. The tide is turning."
