We often hear about Oprah Winfrey's "daughters" who attend her Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, but did you know she has "sons" too?

They are the men of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

This week, Oprah paid them a visit to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program - a US $12 million fund the media mogul set up in 1989 to support the education of African American men.

During her visit, she surprised the faculty with an additional $13 million donation to support the future men of Morehouse too:

"I understand that African American men are an endangered species. They are so misunderstood. They are so marginalized," Oprah said according to a Morehouse press release.

"Where and when I can lend support to try to change that image, I do. That is what Morehouse is doing. It is saying 'This is who we really are.'"

So far 600 young men have benefited from her scholars program.
