Patricia Arquette has used her time on the Emmy stage to call for more support for the transgender community.

The actress who won the award for her supporting role in The Act, delivered an emotional and moving acceptance speech remembering her late sister and trans actress Alexis Arquette.

"In my heart, I'm so sad," Patricia said, holding back tears, "I lost my sister Alexis and that trans people are still being persecuted. And I'm in mourning every day of my life Alexis. And I will be for the rest of my life for you, until we change the world so that trans people are not persecuted."

She continues: "Give them jobs. They're human beings. Let's give them jobs. Let's get rid of the bias that we have everywhere."

Alexis passed away in September 2016 caused by complications from battling HIV.
