Queen Elizabeth has expressed her wishes for The Duchess of Cornwall once Charles becomes King.

In a message marking the 70th anniversary of her reign, the Queen writes that she would like Camilla to receive the title of "Queen Consort":

"And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife, Camilla, the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

If like me, you're wondering what exactly a "Queen Consort" may be - it's the title given to the wife of a ruling King, which is kind of a big deal because until now, it was thought Camilla would be known as "HRH Princess Consort" instead.

But this confirmation of Queen Elizabeth's desire paves the way for a "Queen Camilla" in the future.

Interesting move given that men who have married monarchs such as the late Prince Philip and Prince Albert (Queen Victoria's husband) were always known as "Prince Consort" and never received the "King" title.

Camilla married Charles in 2005 and has been using her platform to champion a number of important causes including supporting nonprofits who work with survivors of domestic abuse, reading and literacy programs for children and is the Patron or President of over 90 charities.

The Queen's latest wish follows her New Year announcement that Camilla would receive a member of the Order of the Garter, one of the highest honours.
