Huge news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the screen, but this time he'll play Doctor Doom, not Iron Man!
Whaaaat?
Yep, the 59-year-old actor has been unveiled as the MCU's iconic super-villain. The casting was announced during San Diego's Comic-Con on Saturday by Marvel boss (and recent Hollywood Walk of Famer) Kevin Feige.
"New mask. Same task," the actor said to roaring applause as the announcement was made.
"What do I tell ya, I like playing complicated characters."

During the event, Feige also revealed the Russo Brothers, who are behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, will be returning to direct two more Marvel films, Secret Wars and Doomsday. Plus, legendary actor Harrison Ford walked onto the stage too. He'll be replacing the late William Hurt as Thunderbolt Ross.
Like I said, huge news!
But back to Mr Downey Jr.... why is it that someone who has played a superhero will now be entering villain territory? And not just any villain either. Possibly the most genius and evil villain of all the MCU villains!
Well, that's a good question. We don't really know. There's some discussion in online Marvel fan groups about Doom and Iron Man switching places in Brian Michael Bendis' Infamous Iron Man comics, so there could be a clue in there somewhere but nothing has been confirmed by Feige himself.
For now, all we know is, it's definitely happening. And Doomsday is set to release in May 2026 whilst Secret Wars will come out the following year in May 2027.
