The Weeknd won Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards - but he didn't feel like celebrating.

Instead, the Blinding Lights singer used his moment in the spotlight to keep the conversation going about police brutality and racial injustice.

"It's really hard for me to celebrate right now and enjoy this moment," he said after being presented with his award.

"So, I'm just going to say justice for Jacob Blake and justice for Breonna Taylor."

Jacob Blake is currently in hospital after being shot seven times in the back by police while Breonna Taylor lost her life earlier this year after police carried out a no-knock warrant at the wrong address and fired a number of shots.

VMAs host Keke Palmer also used the opportunity to speak about police brutality, referring to the shooting of Jacob  Blake as “yet another devastating reminder that we can’t stop. That we can never tolerate police brutality. Or any injustice. We must continue the fight to end systemic racism.”
