You may've noticed a bunch of celebrities including Billie Eilish, Finneas, Ava DuVernay and Ramy Youssef walking the red carpet at the 2024 Oscars, wearing red pins in support of a ceasefire in Gaza.
The pins are from Artists4Ceasefire, an advocacy group which is urging U.S. President Joe Biden and his administration to not only facilitate an immediate ceasefire, but also ensure the safe release of all hostages and the passage of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza.
"More than 30,000 people have been killed over the last 5 months, and over 69,000 injured – numbers that any person of conscience knows are catastrophic," an open letter to the President reads on their website. "We believe all life is sacred, no matter faith or ethnicity and we condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians."
Dua Lipa, Channing Tatum, Cate Blanchett, Amy Lou Wood, Annie Lennox, Bradley Cooper, America Ferrera, Rachel McAdams, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Stewart and Jessica Chastain are amongst those who've signed their names.
And at tonight's Oscars, the red pins were another call for peace from members of the entertainment community. In addition to Billie, Finneas, Ava and Ramy, we saw Mark Ruffalo, Mahershala Ali, Eugene Lee Yang and Quannah Chasinghorse displaying the pins.

"We're all calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza," Ramy said during an interview with Variety.
"And I think it's just a universal message of, 'let's stop killing kids.' Let's not be part of more war. No one has ever looked back at war and thought a bombing campaign was a good idea."

Also showing his support for a ceasefire at the Oscars was The Zone of Interest director Jonathan Glazer who took home the Best International Film Oscar for his adaptation of Martin Amis' novel of the same name which is set in Auschwitz. Taking to the stage with his producer James Wilson, Glazer said, "our film shows where dehumanisation leads at its worst," pointing out the dehumanisation currently taking place during war.
"Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has lead to conflict for so many innocent people - whether the victims of October 7 in Israel or the ongoing attacks in Gaza."
His speech received a big round of applause.
