The WNBA has announced the first ever recipient of its Kobe and Gigi Bryant Advocacy Award.

It's Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul!

The 12-time All-Star will receive the honour at Sunday's game in Cleveland "for his significant contributions to the advancement of girls' and women's basketball and advocacy for the WNBA," a press release from the organisation reads.

It also explains that Paul has "consistently demonstrated a unique level of support" for the WNBA, "using his public platforms to highlight the on-court successes and stories of WBNA players as well as their leadership in the community through their fight for social justice."

He also runs basketball programs for girls through his CP3 Basketball Academy.

The award, which is named after late basketball star Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna who both tragically passed away in 2020, will be presented by Kobe's wife Vanessa Bryant.

Before his death, Kobe was heavily involved in championing women's basketball, coached Gigi's youth basketball team and launched the Mamba Sports Academy to support youth in sport. And Gigi had dreams of joining the WNBA herself.
