Earlier this week, we heard swimmer-turned-international-superstar-turned-swimmer again Cody Simpson had placed third in the 100m butterfly at the Australian Swimming Championships, making him a likely pick to compete at the Commonwealth Games.

And now, it's official!

The 25-year-old has been named in the squad that will head to Birmingham in July after setting a personal best of 51.96 seconds during his heat, along with fellow fly stars Matt Temple (who came first with 51.50 seconds) and Kyle Chalmers (who placed second with 51.67 seconds) - and as you can imagine, Cody is pretty stoked...

"When you get the text that you've made your first Australian team," he writes on Instagram sharing a video of the moment he found out the good news.

"Last night, I was selected to represent Australia at my first Commonwealth Games. I was holding my breath all week after my 100m fly final and this is the moment I found out. If you'd have told me 2 years ago when I had started training in a backyard pool during lockdown that I'd be here today, I don't know if I'd have believed you."

Mum and former Aussie swimmer Angie Simpson shared a heartfelt message on Instagram celebrating Cody's achievement:

"I am stumped for words to explain what I am feeling right now as a mother. You blow my mind with your integrity, determination, true grit, humbleness and class! I am beyond proud and I love that your actions and passion for life makes me strive to be a better person, we are so proud of you."

Next stop... Olympics?
