Jane Fonda To Receive Prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award At 2021 Golden Globes

Hollywood icon and environmental activist, Jane Fonda will be receiving a top honour at this year's Golden Globes.

The 83-year-old star has been announced as the recipient of the 2021 Cecil B. DeMille Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the world of entertainment.

"For more than five decades, Jane's breadth of work has been anchored in her unrelenting activism, using her platform to address some of the most important social issues of our time," Ali Sar, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said in a statement.

"Her undeniable talent has gained her the highest level of recognition and while her professional life has taken many turns, her unwavering commitment to evoking change has remained. We are honoured to celebrate her achievements at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards."

The award is named after film director, producer and the man recognised as the founding father of American cinema, Cecil B. DeMille.

Jane Fonda who is already a seven-time Golden Globe winner and has been nominated 15 times in her career, will become the 16th female to receive the prestigious award out of 67 recipients.

Other women who've won include Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn.

Jane is also heavily involved with non-governmental organisation Fire Drill Fridays calling for governments to take urgent climate action and recently released a book titled What Can I Do? The Truth About Climate Change and How To Fix It*.

The Golden Globes will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on February 28.
