The Aussie captain who helped lead the Matildas to a history-making World Cup campaign (they came 4th overall, the highest any Australian team has ranked in a FIFA World Cup event), shared her big news on social media:

"I'm excited to launch Sam Kerr Football, my new football schools for girls and boys aged 3 -14. The program is not just about football. It's about holistic player development in a fun environment."

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sam, who also plays for Chelsea F.C., explained that she didn't have many opportunities growing up to develop her skills in a way that allowed her to play at her best:

“It wasn’t until I turned pro that I learnt things like how to nourish my body to perform at my best or how to manage my mental well-being. My hope is that delivering a comprehensive program that is more than just skill development will give young players the best chance to live out their potential as a player.”

She adds, “Being in the position I’m in today, I want to give back to the sport I love and to my young fans. It’s an incredible privilege to be able to share what I have learned to better the sport, to build a legacy, and to inspire and connect with the next generation of Australian footballers.”

According to the school's website, "Sam Kerr Football incorporates a prescriptive but flexible football curriculum, along with broader health and wellbeing initiatives that are fundamental to player development" including media training and presentation skills. It will officially launch later this year.

Sam fell in love with the sport at a young age, swapping from Aussie Rules when she was 12. She went on to play professionally at 15, starting for Perth Glory as well as the national team that same year. Today, she's at the top of her game and an inspiration to millions.
