Sir David Attenborough, who was knighted by The Queen back in 1985, has today received another royal honour.

The 96-year-old icon was awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George, which is even more prestigious than his first knighthood and recognises his commitment to the world of television, broadcasting and conservation.

The honour was bestowed upon him by Prince Charles, Prince of Wales during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on June 8.

Sir David, who is known for his legendary nature documentaries including The Blue Planet, helped set up the Earthshot Prize with Prince William in 2019 which aims to find solutions to pressing environmental issues.

A number of other famous faces were recognised at the investiture at Windsor Castle this week too including actor Toby Jones who received an OBE for services to drama and gold medal-winning Paralympic athlete Laura Sugar who received an MBE.
