The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and Joaquin Phoenix as the villainous Joker himself, has finally arrived!

The clip shows their characters meeting in what appears to be Gotham City's Askham Asylum.

"Do you want to get out of here?" Harley asks Joker, before the two are seen dancing around together.

The trailer, though light on dialogue, sets the perfect tone for the highly anticipated musical sequel - a suspenseful and visually captivating follow-up to the 2019 film Joker.

The first official poster for the film was also released this week, showing Joker and Harley dancing together in darkness as a light shines on them through a small window.

Lady Gaga confirmed she would be taking part in the film back in August 2022 when she posted an animated teaser on Instagram. It showed Joker and Harley Quinn's silhouettes dancing to music.

At the time, actor Margot Robbie who portrayed Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey (2020) and The Suicide Squad (2020) was asked about Gaga taking on the same role. In an interview with MTV, she shared just how important this is:

“I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.”

Margot pointed out that it’s something we rarely see happen with female characters: “There’s Queen Elizabeth I, but like beyond that?"

Todd Phillips has returned to direct the sequel once again and has also co-written the screenplay with Scott Silver.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be released October 4, 2024.
