Anna Kendrick has revealed the income she earned from her directorial debut, Woman of the Hour, has been donated to nonprofits supporting people impacted by violent crimes.

In an interview with Ashley Flowers' Crime Junkie, Anna not only spoke about putting herself forward as director (hell yeah to more women in directorial positions!) and the huge success of the drama, but also the moment she knew she wanted to make the donation:

"We just barely made the deadline to get into TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and then it was like, oh, there's going to be money exchanging hands. And I sort of asked myself the question, do you feel gross about this? And I did. And so, I'm not making money off of the movie. The money has gone to RAINN and the National Centre for Victims of Violent Crime."

RAINN being America's largest anti-sexual violence organisation and the National Centre for Victims of Crime provides information, resources and advocacy for survivors.

Now why would Anna be feeling "gross" about earning money for her hard work, you might be wondering?

Well, Anna stars in Woman of the Hour as Sheryl Bradshaw, an aspiring actress who crosses paths with serial killer and convicted sex offender Rodney Alcala on a dating game show in the 70s. The film is based on the real-life crimes committed by Alcala but centres on the stories of the women he attacked - and yes, he really did appear on a game show in the midst of committing a string of horrific crimes. Not wanting to profit from the victims' ordeals, it seems Anna decided to donate her pay.

Speaking to Tudum earlier, Anna said it was important to centre the women because “there are so many heroes in this story, but the heroes were outnumbered and outgunned by basically incompetence and negligence and a culture that did not prioritise victims."

Woman of the Hour also stars Daniel Zovatto, Tony Hale, Nicolette Robinson, Kathryn Gallagher and more.

It's currently streaming on Netflix.
