Beyoncé has set up a relief fund to help families impacted by the deadly wildfires in Los Angeles.
The Grammy-winning superstar made the announcement through her nonprofit, BeyGOOD, and kicked it off with a US$2.5 million donation. According to BeyGOOD, the funds will be distributed to those who've lost their homes in the Altadena and Pasadena areas of LA, as well as churches and community centres who are helping thousands of displaced locals.
"From the start of the wildfires, BeyGOOD has worked with volunteer service organisations and churches to identify homeowners and area residents most in need," the nonprofit shares in a release.
Beyoncé's mum, Tina Knowles, lost her Malibu home in the fires earlier this week. Posting to social media, Ms. Tina shared her gratitude for the firefighters who've been working non-stop:
"God bless all the brave men and women in our fire department who risked their lives in dangerous conditions. We thank you for your dedication and bravery and for saving many lives. This could have been so much worse without the dedication of the disaster workers and first responders."
She continued, "To the people who lost their homes and belongings, I can only imagine how it feels to lose properties and everything you worked so hard and sacrificed so much to own. My heart and deep prayers go out to all of you. I cannot imagine the pain and suffering and fear that you are enduring. I am praying diligently for our beautiful City of Los Angeles. We are resilient though and we will recover!"
