Dolly Parton is giving back to the medical community once again.

According to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, the country music icon who made a $1 million donation towards their COVID vaccine research in 2020, has made another million-dollar donation, this time to support research into paediatric infectious diseases.

The money will be used to better understand how viruses and bacteria cause disease, antibiotic resistance, as well as diagnosing and treating children with infections and cancer.

“No child should ever have to suffer. I'm willing to do my part to try and keep as many of them as I can as healthy and safe as possible," Dolly shared in a statement.

This is an issue particularly close to Dolly's heart after her niece Hannah was treated for leukemia as a child through the Vanderbilt Paediatric Cancer Program.

Dr. Jeff Balser, the president and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center shared in the announcement how much Dolly's donation means:

“Dolly's previous support to infectious disease research, and also our paediatric cancer program, has already saved countless lives. This new gift will bolster our defences against future threats to the safety of this region and society as a whole.”
