Hollywood music industry mogul Guy Oseary has been spending some time in New Zealand lately, not only because the band he manages, U2, is touring the country right now, but also because he wanted to reach out to the Muslim community in Christchurch who were targeted in a terror attack earlier this year.
The 47-year-old who also manages Madonna and a number of other big names, stopped by the Al Noor and Linwood Mosques with his wife Michelle, where 51 people were killed on March 15.
"As I walked into Al Noor Mosque I was overwhelmed with emotion," he writes in an Insta post.
"I began to recall the distressing images that many of us saw online of that fateful day," he continues. "The resilience and positivity of the incredible men and women I met at the Mosque is something I will never forget."
Oseary started a GoFundMe campaign in the United States soon after the devastating shootings occurred to support the victims and their families.
"I read the frightening details and I could barely find the strength to watch a short clip of the disturbing footage. My heart breaks for the victims and their families," he wrote at the time.
He managed to raise over US$155,000 for the Victim Support Appeal with contributions made from over 600 people around the world including Madonna, Ashton Kutcher and Ben Stiller.
Oseary who was born in Israel, told the mosque that just a few months before the Christchurch shootings, his own Jewish community was devastated by an attack on a synagogue in Pittsburgh which claimed the lives of 11 innocent people.
A GoFundMe page to support the families of the victims was set up by an Iranian immigrant at the time, which appears to have inspired Oseary's kindness.
"If anyone reading this should ever find themselves in Christchurch or near it, please go visit these mosques and meet these inspiring men and women," Oseary writes.
He ends his post saying "Salam, Shalom, Peace."
