Organisers of a toy drive in Chicago are calling Ye a "modern-day Santa Claus" after he made a generous donation to help kids in need.

The superstar who grew up in the city, donated almost 4,000 items to the children of Englewood on Sunday, December 19 - and this isn't the first time he's helped out either.

"I'm so proud that Kanye is, once again, responding to our request to help the children of Englewood and beyond," Chicago Alderman Stephanie Coleman told ABC7.

"He is no stranger to our community," she continues.

"His presence has always been felt in our neighbourhoods and he loves visiting, but this Christmas he has truly been our modern-day Santa Claus."

The event took place at the Kennedy King College in the South Side of Chicago and families were also provided with free food.

Ye's kindness comes several weeks after he donated over 1,000 meals to feed the homeless at the Los Angeles Mission's Annual Thanksgiving event.
